Lester Glenn Chevrolet of Freehold

Chevy Equinox

It’s easy to get carried away with your finances at times. Making financial mistakes can be all too easy, and as this past year has proven, sometimes things are completely out of our control.

That’s why you shouldn’t beat yourself up if your credit score is lower than you would like. You also shouldn’t have to worry about finding a new car. At Lester Glenn Chevrolet of Freehold, we believe that everyone who needs a vehicle should be able to get one, regardless of credit.

If you’re interested in a Chevy Equinox lease, here are some helpful things to keep in mind.

Down Payment

We’ll do everything we can to help you secure a loan, and one of the ways you can really help yourself is with a good down payment. By making a sizeable down payment up front, you won’t have to borrow as much money, which will reduce the amount you’ll have to pay every month.

Current Debt

It’s typically easier to borrow money if you don’t have much (or any) outstanding debt. This is why now is a great time to analyze how much you owe elsewhere and do whatever you can to reduce or eliminate it.

Co-Signers

One of the best ways to get a loan is to have a co-signer. However, not just any co-signer will do. If you’re considering enlisting the help of a co-signer for your new Chevy purchase, you will need to find someone with good or great credit.

If you have any other questions about leasing, get in touch with our Freehold Chevy dealership. If you’re ready to start the financing process, all you need to do is fill out our online application.

Flat Tire

There are certain things all drivers should know, like how to use turn signals. It’s also important to know more complicated things, like how to change a flat tire.

You never know when you’ll run over something sharp and puncture a tire, which is why this bit of knowledge is so vital. Check out this guide from our Chevrolet service center that goes over the basics of changing a flat tire.

1. Gather Your Tools

There are two crucial tools you’ll need for changing a tire: a tire jack and a lug wrench. Take those out of your car, along with your spare tire.

2. Loosen the Lug Nuts

Next, take your wrench and loosen the lug nuts. Make sure not to remove them completely yet, as they’ll need to hold your tire in place.

3. Jack Up the Car

The third step is to put your tire jack under a strong part of your car’s frame. Then, turn the jack handle in a clockwise motion until the entire tire is off the ground.

4. Remove the Flat

Once your tire is up in the air, you can take off the lug nuts completely, along with the flat tire. Next, line up the holes on your wheel with the holes on the spare tire and put the lug nuts back in. First tighten them by hand, and then use the wrench.

5. Put the Car Back Down

The final step is to turn the jack handle counter-clockwise until your car is lowered. Check the lug nuts again to make sure they’re tight.

Insurance is one of the most important aspects of owning a car. While you may be the best driver in the world, you’ll almost certainly encounter some less-than-stellar drivers while you’re out on the road.

Insurance not only keeps your vehicle protected; it also safeguards you and your passengers. This is why it’s vital that everybody knows about insurance and how to get the right policy, especially first-time drivers.

Fortunately, if you’re trying to get information about car insurance near me, we’re here to help.

Types of Car Insurance

The first thing to understand is that there are several different types of car insurance. While some are required by law, others are optional. These include:

  • Liability insurance. Every driver in New Jersey needs to have liability insurance. This covers accidents in which you are at fault, including those that involve property damage or cause injuries.
  • Collision insurance. With collision insurance, you will get money for repairs from an accident that was your fault. If another driver was to blame, his or her insurance should cover your repairs.
  • Comprehensive insurance. If something happens to your car not related to a collision – like if a tree fell on it, for example – this would be covered by comprehensive insurance.
  • Uninsured/underinsured insurance. Unfortunately, not every driver has insurance. If you get into an accident caused by a person without insurance, you’d be out of luck. The same is true if they don’t have a lot of liability coverage. This is why uninsured/underinsured insurance can be invaluable.

Why Chevy Maintenance is Important

Maintenance Checklist

To better serve your pre-owned or new Chevy vehicle, our Chevy service department has created the following maintenance checklist. Think of it as a primer for understanding what we do to maintain your car’s overall quality.

• Fluids: A fluid check is something we do whenever you visit us for service. Key fluids include wiper fluid, engine coolant, power steering fluid, oil, antifreeze, and transmission fluid. We top each one off and remedy any leaks we discover.

• Oil: Everyone knows how important oil is to a car’s performance. With advancements in oil and the engines that use it, you’re likely to drive at least 5,000 miles before needing an oil change. The exact time depends on the season, how much you drive, and the mileage on your car’s odometer.

• Belts: Lester Glenn Chevrolet of Freehold prioritizes your car’s engine belts and regularly inspects them for tears and cracks. On average, the timing belt is replaced every 60,000 miles and the serpentine belt every 40,000 miles.

• Battery: Though the average car battery lasts several years, we’ll still inspect yours for damage, give it a charge if necessary, and clean the nodes.

documents and a car key

Whether drivers visit our Freehold, NJ Chevy dealership to see our inventory of new or used Chevrolet vehicles, they often ask us if we have any advice that can help them lower the cost of their auto insurance. Just because car insurance is required in nearly every state doesn’t mean you should pay more for it than is necessary. Here are some tips from our finance experts on how to lower your insurance premium.

Maintain Good Credit

Luckily, there are some things you can do to try to lower the cost of your car insurance. One of the easiest things you can do is maintain a good credit score. Studies show that people with good credit are less likely to file insurance claims, so carriers reward them with lower premiums.

Bundle Your Homeowners and Car Insurance Policies

A lot of insurance companies will offer you a discount if you bundle multiple policies with the same carrier. If your homeowners and car insurance policies are with different insurers, bundle both types of coverage with the carrier that will give you a multi-policy discount.

Raise Your Deductible

When you contact our Chevy dealership near Brick, NJ, we’ll tell you that raising your deductible will often yield a lower auto insurance premium. If you can afford to pay more out of pocket if you have to file a claim, you may want to raise your policy’s deductible.

Keep Your Driving Record Clean

To keep your insurance premium as low as possible, keep your driving record free from any blemishes. Drive responsibly and avoid speeding or reckless behavior that could result in you getting a ticket.

Ask for Discounts

Bundling policies isn’t the only way you might qualify for a discount. Contact your insurer to see if you’re eligible for any other discounts.

Service Tech

In a recent blog post, we explained when it’s a good idea to have your car’s transmission fluid replaced. As you probably know, that’s not the only fluid you’ll need to replace over the course of your automobile’s life. For example, you’ll have to get new oil at our Chevy service center much more often, and in many cases, you’ll also have to replace your power steering fluid from time to time as well.

Power Steering Basics

Vehicles like the Chevy Malibu are so easy to steer because they have a power steering system. When it works properly, this system eliminates the physical strain that you may have to put forth to operate an older automobile. When the system malfunctions or fails, it can be difficult if not impossible to steer a car with anything less than a Herculean effort.

To keep your power steering system operating the way it’s supposed to, you need to bring your car into our Chevrolet service center near Manalapan, NJ for regular maintenance. It’s typically wise to have our factory-trained technicians inspect the condition of your power steering fluid every time you get your oil changed.

At the bare minimum, you should have your power steering system checked out at least once annually. If your system requires it, you’ll need to replace your power steering fluid every few years or sooner if you accumulate miles. If you notice any indications that your system needs work, like difficulty steering, your power steering needs immediate attention.

Finance documents

Are you interested in getting a new Chevrolet vehicle like the 2020 Chevy Equinox? Has one of our used Chevrolet cars caught your eye? In either case, you may want to finance at least part of your purchase.

When you finance an automobile, you might hear words that you’re not overly familiar with. Because it’s important to understand what’s happening when you finance a car, we thought it would be a good idea to explain what some of those terms mean.

  • Down payment: A down payment is the amount of money you’ll pay out of pocket when you purchase or lease an automobile.
  • Equity: When you finance a car, you’ll build equity as you pay off your loan. Equity is the difference between what you owe on your vehicle and your automobile’s current market value. If you lease a car, you will never build equity in your ride because you’re basically renting your vehicle for a set number of months.
  • Upside down loan: If you’re upside down on your auto loan, it means your outstanding loan balance is greater than your car’s market value. Many motorists are upside down on their loan for the first few years when vehicles typically experience rapid depreciation.
  • Depreciation: This is a fancy term that’s used to describe the value an automobile loses over time. Cars usually depreciate slower after the first few years they’re privately owned.
  • Principal: The principal is the amount you owe on your vehicle before interest is factored into the equation.

If you have a question about a term that’s not discussed above, contact one of our dealers at Lester Glenn Chevrolet of Freehold or visit our convenient location to talk to our finance experts today.
